It was a busy afternoon on Sunday in Round 2 of Betfred League One.
North Wales Crusaders kick-started their campaign in style with a 16-40 victory away at Cornwall. Carl Forster's side had endured a five week break following games against Championship opponents in the Betfred Challenge Cup and AB Sundecks 1895 Cup and were raring to go when their first league fixture came around.
Meanwhile, Keighley Cougars continued their 100% winning start to the 2024 league season, as they hit 50 points once again in Round 2. A 13-try spectacle unfolded at Cougar Park, as the Cougars made it convincing back-to-back home wins (58-16).
History was made at the Alexander Stadium on Sunday, as Midlands Hurricanes secured their first win of the season and their first ever win inside the main stadium arena. They played hosts to Newcastle Thunder and a 30-16 score-line at half-time suggested there was an even and entertaining contest taking place. Back out for the second half, and a jaw-dropping performance from the Midlands would go on to see seven tries and 40 unanswered points scored across forty minutes - as they recorded an emphatic and memorable 70-16 victory.
Finally, a tight encounter unfolded over in Rochdale, as both the Hornets and Hunslet were searching for a second consecutive win. There was little to separate the two sides as Rochdale came from behind taking the scores to 20-20 a piece heading into the final ten minutes. A Harvey Hallas Hunslet try and a successful kick would edge the visitors in front, but a draw looked to be on the cards when half-back Lewis Else went over for Rochdale two minutes from time. Unable to convert, the Hornets would fall agonisingly short as Hunslet remain unbeaten (24-26).
